Anyone know of an alternative to SSMS something not so fat, something slim and easy to use.
Azure Data Studio. It's what Microsoft is putting most of their effort into.
Be advised that certain things are not as polished, e.g. query plans, SQL Agent, most of the deeper administrative functions. There are plugins for some things (like Plan Explorer and Redgate tools)
SSMS is getting a bit more love than it did 2-3 years ago, they're publishing updates about once per quarter now. It is a bit lighter than it used to be.

I am installing an application on an airgapped laptop and wanted a simple way of deploying the database side of things and opted to leverage powershell
