SQL Server 2016 Developer Edition

I downloaded SQL Server 2016 SP1 Developer Edition from Visual Studio.
When I try to install it I get this message:
The operating system on this computer or its service pack level does not meet the minimum requirements fro SQL server 2016. TO determine the minimum required operating system supported for this SQL Server release, see Hardware and Software Requirements for installing SQL Server 2016 at:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=398123

My computer is Windows 7 Enterprise Service Pack 1
RAM: 8.00GB
System type: 64-bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 750 @ 2.67 GHz 2.80 GHz

I followed the link (above) but can not determine the problem.

This is how I read it:

SQL Server Edition = SQL Server Developer

Supported Operating System =

Windows Server 2016 Datacenter
Windows Server 2016 Standard
Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter
Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard
Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials
Windows Server 2012 R2 Foundation
Windows Server 2012 Datacenter
Windows Server 2012 Standard
Windows Server 2012 Essentials
Windows Server 2012 Foundation
Windows 10 Home
Windows 10 Professional
Windows 10 Enterprise
Windows 8.1
Windows 8.1 Pro
Windows 8.1 Enterprise
Windows 8
Windows 8 Pro
Windows 8 Enterprise

So looks to me like "My computer is Windows 7 Enterprise Service Pack 1" is not enough

Damn!!! Microsoft wants me to upgrade my OS.
Not in our budget yet for 2016.
Thanks Kristen.

oops...meant 2017 budget...

Can you spin up a virtual machine running Windows Server 2012 where you can install the database engine? The client tools run on Windows 7 so you could still use your system for that - but have the engine on a VM server.

I could try that...let me check to see if have enough resources on my computer; its running very close to "maxed out" already.
