Sql server 2014 filestream system requirements for windows 2012r2

For windows 2008, we need to disable generation of 8.3 names on all NTFS volumes for filestream
and disable last file access time tracking in NTFS.

Is this still a requirement for Windows 2012r2 and SQL Server 2014

As I read Microsoft's guide, it is not a requirement. It is best practice in regards to performance.
They (Microsoft) writes "consider the following guidelines: ...."
See for yourself here in section "Physical Configuration and Maintenance"."
