I have started working with Power BI & Also am trying to integrate it with SQL databases for my reports. I am relatively new to Power BI so I want insights on the best practices for connecting Power BI to SQL data sources.
I want tips on how to ensure smooth data refreshes, optimize queries & any performance tweaks that could make the reports run faster. I have seen some people mention using DirectQuery vs. Import Mode but I am not sure which is the better option for my use case.
Also, if anyone has experienced any challenges with handling of large datasets in SQL I want to hear how you managed that. Any suggestion or resources you think are worth checking out ??
I don't use PowerBI much anymore, but GuyInACube is my go-to for any questions I have. This might be particularly relevant, but it's on the PASS Data Community channel:
You can try searching the PASS channel for more PowerBI:
However, you might be better off browsing the playlists for PowerBI in the titles. Many good videos on the PASS channel are unlisted, so they don't appear in searches, but are visible in playlists and can be viewed. I've already mentioned this to the new ownership of the channel, I think they are working on making the videos searchable.
Paul has a few videos, that one seems most relevant to your request. Here's some more by him:
