Feeding PowerBI variables

Hello

Is it possible to enable PowerBI users to specify variables via visuals and these then be fed into the SQL query or at least the Power Query?

E.g. a user can choose a date from a calendar visual and this will be used as a SQL variable to refresh from the server or as a Power Query variable.
I know the 'Parameter' feature that enables you to specify a variable when you open the PowerBI file and this then to be used but not sure if it can be chosen from a dashboard visual rather than a dialog box on start.

You don't really need to do that because power bi visual widget can be filtered by another visual widget within the powerbi dashboard itself.

Just add a Calendar table, use it to filter your other visual
